RED Systems — Controls Division

Controls Engineering and Panel Fabrication

RED Systems designs and builds pump control panels, VFD panels, MCC sections, and PLC-based control systems for industrial, municipal, and commercial pump applications across Ontario. Our controls engineers work directly with the pump and fabrication teams to deliver fully integrated, tested systems.

Controls Engineering for Pump and Process Systems

The RED Systems Controls Division provides controls engineering, panel design, panel fabrication, and field commissioning services for pump systems and process applications. Controls scope ranges from a simple VFD panel for a single pump to a complete PLC-based multi-pump control system with SCADA integration, remote monitoring, and instrumentation.

Working within RED Systems means controls engineering is coordinated directly with pump selection, mechanical design, and fabrication. Customers don't need to manage separate vendors for the pump, the skid, and the panel — RED Systems delivers the complete integrated system, engineered, tested, and documented.

Control Panels RED Systems Designs and Builds

Drive & Starter Panels

VFD and Soft Starter Panels

Variable frequency drive panels and soft starter enclosures for single and multi-pump applications. Includes drive selection, panel design, wiring, programming, and pre-commissioning testing.

Logic Control

PLC Control Panels

PLC-based control panels for automated pump sequencing, duty/standby operation, level-based control, pressure-based control, and process interlocking. Includes PLC selection, programming, and HMI where required.

System-Level

MCC Sections and Distribution

Motor control centre sections, motor starters, and power distribution for pump systems. Integrated with protection, metering, and control requirements of the overall system.

Monitoring

Remote Monitoring Panels

Remote I/O, telemetry, and SCADA integration panels for pump stations that require remote status monitoring, alarm notification, and data logging.

Package Integration

Packaged System Panels

Integrated control panels built as part of a RED Systems pump package or fabricated skid. Mounted, wired, and pre-tested as part of the complete assembly.

Retrofit & Upgrade

Panel Upgrades and Retrofits

Replacement and upgrade of existing pump control panels — obsolete drives, failed PLCs, aging starters, or panels requiring expansion or modification to meet current requirements.

Controls & Panels — FAQ

Can you replace or upgrade an existing pump control panel?
Yes. RED Systems can design and build a replacement panel for an existing pump system — whether the existing panel has failed, is obsolete, or needs to be expanded. Provide the existing panel details, motor HP and voltage, and the current control requirements and RED Systems will develop the replacement scope.
Can you integrate a panel with an existing SCADA or building automation system?
Yes. RED Systems can design control panels with the communications interfaces required to integrate with existing SCADA, BMS, or automation systems. Common protocols supported include Modbus RTU/TCP, BACnet MS/TP and IP, DNP3, and Ethernet/IP. Confirm the existing system's protocol at the time of inquiry.
Do you provide on-site commissioning for control panels?
Yes. RED Systems provides factory acceptance testing (FAT) at our facility and can provide field commissioning support at the installation site. Commissioning scope includes loop checks, I/O verification, drive startup, PLC program testing, and operator familiarization.
Can you design a panel to be CSA certified?
Yes. RED Systems designs panels to CSA standards and can work with third-party certification bodies where a CSA-certified panel label is required by the customer or the authority having jurisdiction.
What information is needed for a controls quote?
The most useful starting information includes the number of motors, motor HP and voltage, control philosophy or sequence of operations, instrumentation requirements, enclosure location and rating requirements, communications requirements, and whether this is a standalone panel or part of a larger fabricated package.
